How to Get Clear Skin at Home
Let’s get started with the best face masks you can make at home, to get a clear, glowing and flawless skin.
- Avocado and Honey Facial Mask
Don’t you just love honey? It’s not too sweet, has a rich texture, and is so versatile. You can use it to boost your immunity, flush out toxins, and manage weight. What if you used it in a facial mask? Honey has abundant moisturising properties that soothe your dry skin. Add some avocado to it, and it makes a great skin care remedy. You will require:
- ½ an avocado, mashed
- ½ cup of honey
Make a paste of the mashed avocado and honey. Next, spread a clean cloth soaked in warm water over your face. The warm water will allow your skin pores to open up. Then, apply the face mask, and leave it on for about 30 minutes. Once it is dry, use lukewarm water to gently rinse it off, and then splash some cold water on your face.

The cold water will ensure that your skin pores close. Use this mask once in every three days. The omega-3 fatty acids in avocados, along with the humectants in honey, will ensure that your skin becomes soft and supple.
- Oatmeal And Yogurt Pack
You surely know that oatmeal facilitates weight management, but did you know it has skin benefits too? The beta-glucans in oatmeal have a skin tightening effect and soothe your skin. Therefore, it not only has anti-ageing properties but also prevents inflammation of your skin.
The lactic acid present in yogurt has an astringent effect on your skin that removes blemishes, tan, pigmentation, scars, and dark circles. You will require:
- 1 tablespoon of finely ground oatmeal
- 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon honey
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl until you have a thick paste. Apply this paste on your face and arms, and massage gently in a circular motion for 5 minutes. Leave it on for another 15 minutes before rinsing it off gently with lukewarm water. The oatmeal grain will scrub your skin off dirt and grime, leaving you feeling refreshed.
- Chocolate Mask
This one is my personal favourite. Did you know that all the sinful chocolate that you find difficult to avoid can help rejuvenate your skin? It helps you hydrate as well as moisturise your skin. The antioxidants in chocolate fight cellular damage caused by free radicals. You will require:
- 1/3 cup of cocoa
- ¼ cup of honey
- 3 tablespoons of heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons cottage cheese
- 3 teaspoons oatmeal
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl until the mixture has a smooth consistency. Then, apply it on your face and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Once it is dry, rinse it off gently with lukewarm water using the tips of your fingers. It will leave you feeling refreshed and smelling sweetly of chocolate.
- Carrot and Oatmeal Mask
Carrots are your best friends not only in your battle for weight loss but also to keep your skin healthy. Carrots are packed with vitamins C, D, E, and K, as well as beta-carotene that facilitate the production of collagen. Collagen is the protein that helps retain skin elasticity and reverses aging. You will require:
- 2 tablespoons of freshly grated carrots
- 1 tablespoon of oatmeal
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- ½ an egg yolk
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and beat till the mixture attains a smooth consistency. Apply it on your face and arms, and leave it on for 15-20 minutes, till it dries. Once it is dry, wash it with lukewarm water, and splash cold water on your face. The coarseness of the oatmeal and carrots helps in exfoliation, and removes tan, grime, and dirt from your face.
- Brown Sugar and Oatmeal Scrub
Brown sugar has great exfoliating and antibacterial properties. It helps reduce your dark circles and dark tan, and protects your skin from bacterial infections in the skin pores which lead to acne. You will need:
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1 cup of raw oatmeal
- 1 cup of olive oil
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl until you have a thick paste. Use the tips of your fingers to scrub your body, arms, legs, and face. Massage in a gentle circular motion while you scrub your body with the paste. After you have scrubbed yourself, step into the shower and rinse it off gently. Make sure the water is lukewarm. When you step out of the shower, your skin will feel soft and supple.
- Aloe Vera and Avocado Mask
Aloe Vera has always been our first solution for all skin problems. Be it tanning, rashes, or any other inflammation, aloe vera is our trusted healer. Add avocados to that mix, and you will have a great face mask at your disposal. You will require:
- ½ cup of aloe vera gel
- ½ an avocado, mashed
- 2 tablespoons of cold cream
- 2 tablespoons of yogurt
- 1 tablespoon of honey
Mix all the ingredients thoroughly to form a thick paste. Take a brush and paint the mask evenly over your face. Leave it to dry for 15-20 minutes. This face mask is a great solution for dehydrated and chapped skin. The omega-3 fatty acids in avocado help moisturise your skin. The lactic acid in yogurt acts as an astringent that cleanses your skin.
- Sugar, Apple, and Cinnamon Body Polish
While sugar helps exfoliate your skin, apple contains vitamins A and C that help in the production of the protein collagen. Collagen is responsible for skin elasticity as well as the repair and regeneration of new skin cells. Apples also contain copper that facilitates the production of melanin that is responsible for the colour of your skin. It also protects you from overexposure to UV rays. You will require:
- 2 tablespoons of grated and pureed apples
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon granulated brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and continue stirring. Apply the body polish generously all over yourself in a gentle circular motion. Once you are done applying it all over yourself, rinse it off gently with lukewarm water, and follow it up with a deeply moisturising body lotion. When using the scrub for your face, remember not to add the granulated sugar lets it scrapes your skin.
- Coffee Body Scrub
Coffee is a powerful exfoliating agent as it removes dead skin that otherwise clogs skin pores and contributes to breakouts. The natural oils in coffee help moisturize and soothe your skin. You will require:
- 2 cups of coarsely ground coffee
- ½ cup of raw sugar or sea salt
- 3 tablespoons of olive oil
Mix all the ingredients in the bowl until you have a thick paste. Place a clean cloth soaked in warm water over your face to open up your skin pores. Or, take a shower in warm water, and use the coffee scrub in place of your body shower gel. Scrub moderately for 5 minutes to remove cellulite from your body. You will step out of the shower feeling refreshed.
- Banana, Tea Tree, and Lavender Oil
For smooth hands and beautiful cuticles, you can use this home remedy. The oils will make your hands feel softer, and the banana will act as an exfoliating agent to remove dead cells, especially around your cuticles. You will require:
- One mashed banana
- 2 drops of tea tree oil
- 5 drops of lavender oil
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of cold cream
- 1 pair of rubber gloves
Mix all the ingredients to form a smooth paste. Then, apply it generously on both your hands, and around your cuticles. Next, cover your hand by wearing your rubber gloves. Leaving the mixture on and covered will allow your skin to soak the oils.
You can also put warm weight over your hands to help your skin soak in the nutrients from the oils even better. Take your hands out from the gloves after 30 minutes, and wash them with lukewarm water. You will notice that your hands are much softer.
- Papaya Extract Face Mask
Did you know fruits like papaya that you eat every day could come in handy for your skin care? It is true! You will need:
- ½ ripe papaya, mashed properly
Take a clean cloth and soak it in warm water. Place it on your face so that your skin pores open up. Then, with the help of a brush, evenly apply the mashed papaya on your face. Let it dry for 10-15 minutes. You can lie down and relax until it dries.
Once it is dry, rinse it off gently using lukewarm water. Lastly, splash cold water on your face to ensure the open pores are closed. You will notice that your skin is glowing, and you feel refreshed.
Papaya acts as an exfoliating agent and removes dead cells from the surface, lightens your skin tone, and helps in the production of collagen, thus reversing ageing and preventing wrinkling. Also, the antioxidants present in papaya help fight inflammation and breakouts.
- Green Tea Face Mask
Green tea is exceedingly rich in antioxidants that fight cellular damage by free radicals. It, thus, prevents inflammation that manifests as small bumps on your face and acne. You will require:
- 2 tablespoons of green tea
- 1 tablespoon of yogurt
- ½ tablespoon olive oil (optional)
Ground the green tea using a blender until you have a fine powder. Next, add the yogurt to the ground green tea and beat it until you have an even consistency. Then, add the olive oil and blend again.
Although olive oil is not mandatory, it enhances the effectiveness of the face mask. Apply this paste on your face and neck, and gently massage using the tips of your fingers in a gentle circular motion.

Once you are done, wash it off using warm water. This face pack will get rid of itchiness, rashes, and irritation, and make you feel rejuvenated. Yogurt has lactic acid that contributes and enhances green tea’s exfoliation properties.
- Fruit Facial Mask
Fruits are filled with great benefits for your health and skin. They help remove dust and grime that accumulate on your skin owing to daily exposure and, more often than not, contribute to breakouts. For this fruit mask, you will require:
- 1 apple
- 4 cups of milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2-3 drops of chamomile oil
Mash the apple and add the milk to it. Next, add the sugar and mix it thoroughly. Lastly, add the chamomile oil and allow the mixture to blend properly by constantly whisking it. Then, apply the fruit mask on your face and arms evenly.
Leave it to dry for about 15 minutes before rinsing it off. Use lukewarm water to rinse the mask off. This mask cleanses, hydrates, and nourishes your skin from deep within. It helps remove tan and restores your lost radiance.
